Woodhouse United boss Marc Walters has stepped down in the wake of the weekend’s 2-0 defeat at home to Highfield in the FJ Williams Trophy quarter final.
Central midfielder Walters was involved in a disagreement with one of his own players, Chris Ford, with his side 1-0 down after an an hour.
It led to a couple of home players leaving the pitch and although Woodhouse had substitutes, they conceded a second goal to a team which had turned up with 10 men.
Walters claims he was left to take down the posts and nets without help and when some players said afterwards they were unwilling to play again, the manager stepped down.
Matthew Town is the new boss and he will have the task of trying to restore harmony before Sunday’s Norden and Bamford Financial Srvices League Cup quarter final in which Woodhouse travel to FC Players.
The semi-final is the following Tuesday and the final is at Spotland On Tuesday, May 7.
Walters intends to carry on playing for the side but admitted that “anything could happen”.
He added: “It’s a shame because we haven’t had a bad season, although we were terrible in the middle.
“But the attitude of the players hasn’t been good - they just want to turn up and play and won’t do anything.”
