A scheme to give regulars a share in their own pub got off to a great start at the Fox and Goose, Heptonstall Road, Hebden Bridge, last weekend.

In the first two days £21,000 was taken up towards the £130,000 target, likely to have risen through this week.

The share offer has been launched by campaigners fighting to save the pub. The Fox and Goose (Hebden Bridge) Limited, the co-operative society set up to buy and run the pub for the benefit of the community, opened the share offer on Friday, June 14, and it will run until the end of July, unless the target is hit before that date.

Supporters are able to buy shares from a value of £100 up to a maximum of £20,000. Applications can be made online via the Friends of the Fox and Goose website www.foxandgoose.org.

For those without internet access there will be sessions held in the pub to help with online applications where access and instructions will be provided. Directors of the society will be on hand in the pub to answer any questions and help with applications on Monday, July 1, from 7pm to 9pm, and on Sunday, July 14, from 1pm to 4pm. Information about tax benefits on the shares will also be available.

A share prospectus and a revised business plan are now available to view or download from the website.

Chairman of the Fox Friends, Coun Dave Young, said: “We’ve had fantastic support – and now is the time to come forward and take that commitment one step further by buying as many shares as you feel you can afford and taking up this rare opportunity to own part of what is truly a community asset. “But don’t delay, because the shares are already going fast and the offer will close as soon as the target is reached.”
