An extra 18 spaces at station as £1m upgrade completed

A £1 million improvement scheme to two of Calderdale’s local railway stations’ car parks has now been completed.

Work has been going on since last winter at Todmorden and Sowerby Bridge stations nad nhas now been completed at both.

have both received additional spaces in projects worth £400,000 and £560,000 respectively.

The stations, which are managed by Northern Rail, have received the welcome additional spaces through the Stations Car Park Fund, run by the Department for Transport and in partnership with Metro (West Yorkshire PTE).

Todmorden’s parking facilities have increased by 18 spaces, now bringing a total of 86 to the station.

At Sowerby Bridge there are now 37 additional spaces and a total of 115 to the station overall.

Richard Allan, Area Director of Northern Rail, comments: “These improvements bring welcome additional opportunities for our customers to park at two of our popular stations in Calderdale. We have worked hard with our industry partners to bring benefits such as these to our passengers and are delighted to see them come to fruition.”

Metro chairman Coun James Lewis also welcomed the completion of the work and enhanced service to rail users. “I’m delighted that Metro has been able to work with Northern to increase car parking at these stations

“Providing additional car parking will help encourage people to try the train instead of driving, helping to reduce congestion on local roads in line with the aspirations of the West Yorkshire Local Transport Plan.”

Todmorden Rail Station’s quirky “extras”, developed over the last few years with the nlocal community, include growing beds, artwork designed by local children in conjunction with a local company, a book exchange and the Platform One Gallery.
