Two major accidents on Todmorden’s roads in three days left one man dead and two women seriously injured.
The 46-year-old man died as a result of his injuries when his Honda motorcycle struck a kerb and a wooden fence on Halifax Road, Eastwood, at 9.30pm on Monday night, June 24.
He has not yet being named by police and the coroner has been informed.
The two women, who were travelling in separate vehicles, were injured in a collision at Rochdale Road, Warland, Walsden, on Saturday, June 22, at 6.16pm.
A Halifax Road resident who lives close to the Eastwood site of the accident in which the rider died, said he did not hear the crash but soon saw what had happened after he looked out of his dining room window.
“There was no bang. I walked past the dining room and saw neighbours down with him in the road. The paramedics were not long but nothing could be done.
“He didn’t fly round the corner or we would have noticed that. He’s been really unlucky,” he said.
The road was closed to traffic for several hours.
Any witnesses are asked to contact the Major Collision and Enquiry Team on 101. In the incident on Saturday, the two women were taken to hospital with serious injuries following a crash on Rochdale Road.
The air ambulance had to be called following the smash involving a Mini and a Renault Clio and the road was closed for several hours.
The incident occurred close to the former Bird I’ Th’ Hand pub, when the two cars crashed travelling in opposite directions. A 22-year-old woman was driving the Mini and had to be extracted by emergency services after becoming trapped.
She was taken in the air ambulance to Leeds General Infirmary with serious injuries where this week she was said to be in a stable condition.
The driver of the Renault Clio was a 53-year-old man and his passenger, a woman in her fifties, was taken to the Royal Oldham Hospital with serious injuries but police later said her condition was stable.
The road was closed while the Mini driver was extracted and remain closed until around midnight.
Officers are now investigating the cause of the accident and have asked any witnesses or anyone with information to contact PC1786 Glover, of the Western Area Roads Policing Team, by phoning 101.
