Nelson are the next opponents for Todmorden, who are keen to improve their ailing fortunes in the Lancashire League.

Tod travel to Nelson tomorrow evening for a Twenty/20 contest and make a return trip to Seedhill for a league match on Sunday.

A side led by Simon Newbitt in the absence of injured Andrew Sutcliffe will be looking for a first T20 win of the campaign after three defeats in Group C.

Tod have slipped to 11th in the league while Nelson, whose pro is South African Ryan Canning, are seventh.

Tod will be hoping Nelson’s main focus this weekend will be on Saturday’s re-arranged Worsley Cup semi-final against Haslingden

Nelson won last weekend’s league match against Haslingden by 11 runs.

Sutcliffe and Elliott Gilford will be absentees but wicketkeeper Joe Hanson should be fit.

The Centre Vale Park men suffered two defeats at the hands of Lowerhouse last weekend.

In Friday’s T20 contest, Lowerhouse elected to bat and racked up 184 in 20 overs with pro Francois Haasbroek (65) and Paddy Martin (52 no) putting on 135 for the third wicket.

Young Sam Foster made his debut for the firsts and impressed as his first two overs only went for 12 runs.

Tod made only 101 in reply with Billy Abbas’s 21 not out the top score.

In Saturday’s game Newbitt elected to bowl and they decision looked a decent one with Lowerhouse 75 for three after 25 overs when the rain came.

Four overs were lost and Lowerhouse resumed in determined mood with South African Haasbroek to the fore.

Sutcliffe said: “To be fair he played a brilliant innings as he smashed several sixes to finish on 131 not out.”

The champions totalled an impressive 254 for five off their 46 overs and Sutcliffe added: “In the last three seasons there has only been three occasions in the league when a side has scored more than 200 against us so we were always up against it.”

Todmorden were restricted to 147 for eight in reply with Sri Lankan Geeth Alwis making 41 and Ben Sutcliffe 22.
