The Calder Valley welcomed more than 500 orienteers last Sunday as the Castle Carr Estate and local club East Pennine hosted the Northern Championships.

Despite a lot of local runners spending their day organising the event, there were still three new Northern Champions from the upper Calder Valley.

The Logue family of Todmorden celebrated a double as Esther won the W40 class and James won M45.

East Pennine’s Sarah Pedley became the W12 champion.

Pendle Forest’s Jack Cryer finishing second in M14 with Alasdair Pedley (East Pennine) in fifth, both gaining selection for the national under 14s squad summer training camp in Scotland next month.

The previous evening the runners had taken to the streets of Halifax in an urban event which started and finished at Savile Park and included routes through the town centre.”
