Folk band’s twist on the banjo sound

Hebden Bridge Folk Club will welcome Edinburgh-based five-piece band Blueflint when it stages its next event at the Trades Club on Thursday, July 25.

In 2009 the band’s highly acclaimed debut album “High Bright Morning” gained plaudits throughout the music press and their much anticipated second album “Maudy Tree” in 2011 raised their profile further.

Blueflint’s sound is defined by the close harmonies of Deborah Arnott and Clare Neilson, whose voices interweave in ballads and songs of eerie melancholy and heartfelt charm.

The band intertwines banjos, fiddle, double bass and drums to accompany the singers in beautifully crafted songs, swapping from the dark underbelly of folk to buoyant Americana-tinged ballads.

Blueflint supported The Proclaimers for six weeks on their 2012 “Like Comedy” UK album launch tour.

The line-up consists of Deborah Arnott on vocals, bluegrass banjo and ukulele; Clare Neilson on vocals and clawhammer banjo; Danny Hart on fiddle; Hugh Kelly on double bass; and Ali Murray on drums.

Doors open at 8pm with the show starting at 8.30pm.
