deputy Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, Kate Moreton-Deakin, presented annual awards and certificates to Calder Valley air cadets.
Air cadets from 2447 (Calder Valley) Squadron celebrated a year of achievements at their annual presentation evening, held at Todmorden Working Men’s Social Club.
Amongst the presentations were marksmanship awards, first aid certificates, sporting achievements, navigation qualifications and special awards including that for the best cadet of 2012, won by Cadet Kiriakos.
The flight commanders of A and B Flight also presented their own “paper plate” awards, celebrating everything from the funniest cadet to the winner of the inter-flight dodgeball competition!
The squadron thanked the Deputy Lieutenant and the Rev Paul Wilcock for what was described as an inspirational speech. Thanks were also given to all the parents who attended the evening, to Victoria Widdup for providing the catering, and to Todmorden Working Men’s Social Club for generously providing the venue.
If any parents would like to become more involved with the squadron, its Civilian Committee meets every three months to assist in fundraising and maintain the overall direction of the squadron.
The Air Training Corps is open to young people aged 13-18, and the squadron meets every Monday and Thursday from 7pm to 9pm. For more information, also see the squadron website www.2447sqn.org
