A public meeting to which Todmorden residents and businesses are invited has been arranged to formulate opposition to Calderdale Council parking changes.

Residents who are facing higher parking permit charges and businesses - and members of the public who park in them - who believe charges being introduced on Dale Street, Dalton Street and Oxford Street for the first time will be detrimental to the town are all invited.

Organised by residents in the Cambridge Street area who are fighting to have their parking permit scheme removed, it will be held at Todmorden Working Men’s Social Club, Halifax Road, Todmorden, on Thursday, August 1, at 6pm.

The residents have widened the meeting’s remit in the wake of the council’s decision to go ahead with charging on car parks where previously drivers have been able to park for free.

They say the aim of the meeting is to explore ways in which the moves can be fought.

For its part, the council says its aim is to make the car parks self-financing.
