If ever the world needed saving from catastrophe, most filmgoers would probably vote for characters played by Tom Cruise or Brad Pitt to lead the charge.

Brad takes the honours in ‘World War Z’ (15) at Hebden Bridge Picture House, which has recently been involved in World War B (the ‘B’ standing for burlesque).

No such problems for Angelina’s hunk of a hubby, who plays United Nations employee Gerry Lane, who scours the world in search of a cure to stop a zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments, threating to destroy the human race.

‘World War Z’ is screened tomorrow and Saturday at 7.45pm and on Sunday at 4.30pm.

If rotting flesh is not to your taste, there’s plenty of despicable entertainment for the family, and especially holidaying youngsters, in the animated movie ‘Despicable Me 2’ (U), with voicing from Steve Coogan and Al Pacino. Screened daily at 1.30pm until next Thursday, it’s a fun-packed way to keep the kids out of the glare of the afternoon sun.

Other offerings in the coming days are ‘The Wall’ (15), a contemporary female Robinson Crusoe tale (Sunday and Monday, 7.45pm), ‘Renoir’ (15) on Tuesday at 7.45pm and thriller ‘The East’ (15) on Wednesday and Thursday.
