Bridgeholme have vowed to do everything possible to ensure their ground is fit for play at the weekend after being flooded for the third time in little more than a year this week.

The flash floods which hit the Calder Valley on Monday left the ground at Eastwood waist-deep in water but the pavilion and out-buildings - apart from one old tackle shed - escaped.

Club stalwart Keith Hudson said water levels had peaked at 7pm and just a few puddles had been left by Tuesday morning.

Crucially. the debris left by the water had not been as great as in the past, with the club’s new flood wall playing a part.

“We’ve got half a dozen lads down clearing the silt. It is strange, but we’ve got a hose pipe on the square because if the silt dries you can’t shift it,” he added.

Bridgeholme firsts are due to host promotion-gunning Queensbury in Division One of the Foster’s Halifax League on Saturday.

Hudson’s men are also keen to play after back-to-back wins in their relegation fight.

Hudson said: “If we weather is kind we would be hopeful of playing.

“We’re resigned to the pitch getting flooded every now and then - we’ll get it sorted.”
