A church garden will be full of colour when a charity brings its annual fundraising event to the upper Calder Valley this weekend.
Overgate Hospice is holding its Rainbow of Ribbons event at St Mary’s Church, Todmorden, on Sunday.
Every year the charity creates a rainbow of ribbons throughout the hospice gardens in Elland to give people a chance to dedicate a ribbon to somebody special who has added colour to their life.
But this year Overgate’s new Calder Valley fundraiser Beth Kaminski, who is dedicated to creating new relationships between people in the valley and the hospice, decided to stage a Rainbow of Ribbons event in Todmorden for the first time.
Beth said: “I am really excited about taking our stunning Rainbow of Ribbons event to Todmorden and giving everyone the chance to not only dedicate a ribbon to somebody special but to have the chance to come and view the ribbons in the beautiful church gardens.
“As this is the first event in my new job role, I am hoping it will be a fantastic chance to meet the local people and create a memorable day for all involved.”
The donated ribbons will be tied around the trees and shrubs in a colourful display in the church gardens, giving people the chance to view them on a special day of commemoration.
Refreshments will be available and there will be a chance to meet some of the hospice staff and volunteers.
The event will run from 12.30pm until 4.30pm.
There will also be a special service at St Mary’s at 11am, including a talk on Overgate Hospice.
Ribbons can be purchased for a donation either in advance or on the day.
