Todmorden were probably left to reflect on the fact that there are worse places to be rained off at the moment than Accrington.

Andrew Sutcliffe’s improving Centre Vale Park outfit took three points, along with their hosts, from last Sunday’s Lancashire League trip to the runaway leaders, having conceded 279 for nine off 50 overs.

Tod were 19 for none in reply when play was washed out.

Sutcliffe said: “The straight hit at Accrington is short but there was a very strong wind going one way so we saw plenty of sixes going in that direction.”

Home pro Ashar Zaidi won the league’s race to 1,000 runs, beating Tod’s Geeth Alwis who didn’t get to the crease, with 119 off 112 balls.

Sutcliffe added: “It was a very destructive innings. We tried various bowlers throughout the innings and the most accurate bowler on the day was Stuart Priestley with four for 34 off nine overs.”

Rain reduced Todmorden’s target to 217 from 35 overs but they managedonly six overs.

Tod play Rawtenstall at home on Saturday and Oliver Wood, Stuart Priestley and Gideon Foster are unavailable.
