Todmorden Borough have taken three points from their opening two games - both at home - in Division Two of the West Lancashire League.
John Gilford’s side avenged a defeat on the final day of last season at Barrow Wanderers with a thumping 6-0 success on Saturday.
Borough are worried about a lack of firepower following free-scoring Oliver Wood’s departure to Burnley United in the Premier, but Ben Whittam came up trumps with a hat-trick.
Dean Farry bagged two and Harry Whitehead the other with a header from a corner.
It was a different story on Tuesday against a fancied Haslingden side. Borough led through Farry’s front post header but were caught twice on the break and Haslingden added a third goal before half-time following keeper Lee McGrath’s mis-kick.
It remained 3-1 throughout the second half.
Borough’s young reserve side have had 1-1 draws away to Burscough and Turton.
