Midgley United hit the goal trail as they leapfrogged Stump Cross to take over at the top of the Halifax AFL Premier Division.
While Cross were losing 1-0 at home to King Cross Warley, Midgley were hammering Elland United 6-2 with Tom Booth on target four times.
Booth set the ball rolling after 10 minutes, beating three defenders before firing in a low shot for 1-0.
Five minutes later Booth doubled his tally when Elland failed to deal with a clearance and he produced a smart finish.
Elland created a few chances as they looked to get back into the game but Booth had other ideas, tapping home from George Bamford’s square pass.
Booth completed his tally before the break when he nodded home from Andrew Butterworth’s free-kick.
Elland continued to plug away and reduced the arrears from the penalty spot after which Bamford made it 5-1, firing in from the right.
A second penalty gave Elland faint hope but those hopes were dashed with five minutes left when substitute Tom Rawnsley headed in at the back post.
Hebden Royd Red Star shot up to second place following their narrow 2-1 win at Ryburn United.
Red Star will now plan for Saturday’s Halifax FA Albert Crabtree Cup first round clash at home to Division One outfit Elland All Stars.
Calder 76 suffered disappointment after coming off second best in a nine-goal thriller with Sowerby United.
Sowerby took the lead through a blistering volley from John Wilkinson but Calder were soon level through a Remi Allen strike. Calder went ahead following a handball in the Sowerby area when Simon Stansfield scored from the penalty.
Sowerby hit back with a fine effort from man of the match Joe Swallow. It soon looked to be all over as Sowerby raced into a 5-2 lead, Harvey Walsh rifling home after a Corey Henderson penalty had been saved.
The goal of the game from Andrew Wadsworth with a low 30 yard drive into the corner and another from Swallow soon followed.
Calder gained a second penalty from which Stansfield again made no mistake and that lifted Calder who minutes later made it 5-4 through a fine Jonny
Gibson header.
Calder pressed hard for a fifth but could not find a way through and in the closing minutes it was Sowerby who looked the most likely to score again.
Calder will be hoping to pick up their first win when they travel to face Sowerby Bridge this weekend.
Division One side Wadsworth United are still searching for their first win of the season after going down 3-0 at Salem.
Woodhouse United produced one of the shock results in the Eddie Hebblethwaite Halifax FA Sunday Cup first round as they sent Waiters Arms tumbling out following a 5-3 win.
Woodhouse started very well and went a goal up after 10 minutes through Chris Ford who beat a defender before finding the net.
It was 2-0 soon after when a Daniel Lively throw was met by the head of Josh Anstee.
Waiters arms then pulled a goal back, but Woodhouse restored their two goal advantage through Jonny Sutcliffe.
Waiters added a second to make it 3-2 at the break but Woodhouse were soon in the ascendancy again when Chris Ford powered home from inside the 18 yard box. Again Waiters hit back to make it 4-3 and for a short period it looked as though they could rescue the situation.
However, after Terry Lowe had cleared the ball of the line, Jonny Sutcliffe was then played through to seal the game.
Woodhouse’s reward is a home clash with Hollins Holme.
Hollins Holme ran out 5-1 winners in a fierce local derby with division-lower Hebden Bridge.
Hollins started with 10 men and quickly opened the scoring but Hebden replied with a Gavin Higgins 25 yard drive.
As both teams pressed for the winner the difference in class told and Hollins scored four quick goals.
Royd Club saw their interest ended when they went down 4-3 at home to Division Two side Beehive & Cross Keys.
