At the end of November, our year 11 students had the opportunity to spend two days as sixth formers to find out what life in the sixth form will be like for them.
One day was dedicated to leadership and personal development, which is one of the most exciting parts of the sixth form curriculum for 2014.
Students were given the opportunity to take part in team building sessions where they worked through a number of different activities focusing on developing key skills in team work and leadership.
We also had a special guest for the day - BBC’s “The Apprentice” candidate, Adam Corbally.
Adam ran a session with the students focusing on what it takes to become a success and empowered the students to realise that they can achieve what they want to achieve by breaking down barriers and taking advantage of opportunities to help them make options for themselves in life.
Senior school leaders ran a session named “The Invisible Sixth Form”. This gave year 11 an insight, from a student’s perspective, into life in the sixth form and the leadership opportunities available to them.
Students also took part in a “cooking challenge” where they made their very own noodle snack!
In addition to this, students were also given the opportunity to speak with a number of visiting universities including The University of York, Lancaster University, Bradford University, UCLAN, Leeds Metropolitan University and Huddersfield University.
The universities were really impressed by year 11 and commented on how positively their presence was received by the students.
The second day gave year 11 the opportunity to sample sixth form lessons for the subjects they would like to study next year.
Student Tom Kelly said: “I found talking to the representatives from the various universities very helpful and informative.
“I found the experience very beneficial.”
In addition to the taster days, we also opened the doors to parents and students on Wednesday evening for our sixth form open evening. We were delighted to see so many familiar faces and some new ones as well.
If you missed the opportunity to come to our sixth form open evening, then please do not hesitate to get in touch with the school and we can arrange a time for you to have a tour and find out more.
