Rosie Stobbs from Todmorden is a youngster heading up in the world.
The 11-year-old has qualified for the BMC Youth Climbing Series finals at the Edinburgh International Climbing Arena on June 28.
After podium finishes in each of the three regional rounds, Rosie came second overall in her age category in the north west and will now travel as part of that region’s team to the national finals.
She will face 30 of the best climbers in her age groups.
It is a huge achievement for Rosie, who has only been climbing competitively for just over a year. She came a creditable fifth in the regional heats last year, in her first competition.
Rosie will face more experienced rivals at the EICA, which is the biggest indoor climbing arena in Europe, with walls up to 30 metres high.
Competitors have to tackle three graded boulder problems - low level climbing without ropes - and three graded roped routes.
Points are awarded for how far each competitor progresses on each route with 180 available for the boulder problems and 300 for the ropes.
Rosie trains at Climb Rochdale and with the Rock Over Junior Climbing Academy in Manchester. She attends Todmorden C of E School.
Rosie’s mum Hazel said: “’Rosie started climbing about two to three years ago by accident really as neither me nor her dad climb.
“We took her to Climb Rochdale, mainly for something to do on rainy weekends and school holidays, and found she really enjoyed it.
“We are thrilled for her to have achieved this. Anything she achieves at the nationals is a bonus!”
Rosie trains occasionally at the Todmorden climbing wall and thinks it is great to have this facility on the doorstep.
