I’ll do my best to protect services

I would like to say a massive thanks to all who helped win Todmorden for Labour on May 22. That includes everyone who voted for me, the local Labour Party who selected me as their candidate in January, and friends and family offering support throughout our five months of campaigning, leafletting and knocking on thousands of doors across the ward.

Commiserations to the candidates who didn’t win. I know how hard it is to lose an election when you have invested so much time and effort and commitment to the Party you belong to and the community you wish to serve.

As a newly-elected councillor, I promise to do my very best to protect services and lessen the impact of the £90m budget cuts we have endured in Calderdale since 2010 because of this Coalition Government’s austerity measures.

The Labour-led campaign to save our local NHS will continue and thanks to the thousands who have already signed petitions opposing the closure of the A and E and proposed cuts to hospital beds and services at Calderdale Royal Infirmary.

I’m delighted to be joining Labour’s Jayne Booth and Steve Sweeney, who work tremendously hard for the people we are proud to represent – whichever way they voted.

Coun Susan Press

(Labour, Todmorden)
