The community has rallied around the Calder Valley Search and Rescue team after vital equipment was stolen from a team member’s car.

Items including a red and black Macpac rucksack with equipment inside it valued at £600 were taken from a team member’s car on Friday April 25 in Thornton, Bradford.

However, the team have been overwhelmed with support and offers to replace the equipment and money to buy more items.

Team leader Les Wilson said: “CVSRT would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their kind words of support for our team member whose Mountain Rescue equipment was stolen recently. “The response on here, across all our social media pages and in the press has been overwhelming with heart-warming offers from people wishing to gift their spare equipment or to donate towards replenishing the stolen kit.

“On behalf of our team member and the whole team, thank you for your continued support.”

A donation page has been created mydonate.bt.com/events/stolengear with aim of raising £600 so the team member can be fully equipped and available for operational duty.

Other items stolen include a white Petzl helmet that is labelled with Mountain Rescue livery and a small but very powerful hand torch used for searching.

Other items in the rucksack included a pair of grey over trousers, Berghaus gloves, Keela Outdoors hat, karabiners, slings, a two person Bivi shelter climbing harness and head torch.

“Team members volunteer their spare time and pay out of their own pockets to be equipped ready to help others in distress in wild and remote places so it’s very sad when something like this happens.

“Obviously it’s at times like this that other team members will rally around to try share their older gear to help replenish the stolen equipment,” added Mr Wilson

Anyone with information about the stolen equipment should contact the CVSRT or West Yorkshire Police on 101.
