Proposals to demolish part of a historic mill have been submitted to Calderdale Council planners.
V Power Limited have applied for listed building consent to demolish the 25-bay weaving shed and remove the culvert roof at Hollins Mill, Walsden, to return Walsden Water to open flow.
The weaving shed is at the St Peter’s Gate end of the mill. One public comment opposes the move, arguing the application is an attempt to address issues identified in a previous application’s refusal.
Mr David Cant argues the demolition report places too much emphasis on demolition on economic grounds and ignores importance identified in its listing that the mill had weaving sheds and spinning mills on the same site.
Consultees include Todmorden Town Council, Todmorden Civic Society, the Victorian Society and English Heritage. Expiry date for representations is September 19.
