A conversation with artist Gillian Lee Smith is happening on Thursday, September 18, at the Heart Gallery in Market Street, Hebden Bridge (7pm), to which all are welcome.
The event is hosted by gallery proprietor, Alison Bartram, who said: “Meet the artist and get first hand insights into her current work ‘We all Cast Shadows’ - it is a preview of Gillian’s first solo exhibition which opens here on October 2.”
Gillian said: “We All Cast Shadows is inspired by tales of women who were left husbandless in the war, fishing and miming communities. It is with this sense of pulling together and helping one another survive, in uncertain times that the strength and beauty of the human spirit shone through.”
Alison Bartram says she decided to put on the show because it is “inspired by the traditions of storytelling within our culture - Gillian has the ability to transfer atmosphere and hidden narrative into her paintings that sends each viewer to a different place; powerfully evocative and emotive.”
