A bust of wartime leader Winston Churchill carved by a local sculptor will be presented to the town at a fundraising coffee morning on Saturday, September 20.
Mayor and Mayoress of Todmorden, Coun Michael and Mrs Nikki Gill will receive the bust of Sir Winston, believed to have been carved by former Todmorden News editor-turned-sculptor Sam Tonkiss. The bust, a feature of the former Todmorden Conservative Club for many years, will be presented at the coffee morning at Todmorden Town Hall.
The event will run from 10am to noon in aid of the Mayor’s Charities, which are Independent Living and Todmorden Hippodrome Theatre. As well as a cuppa, home produce will be available. The Churchill bust has been in private hands since the club, which is now office space, closed several years ago.
