If there’s one thing poet Winston Plowes can say about his latest work, it’s that he will have you in the palm of his hand.
Winston’s book Extras, whose subkject matter has a filmic quality, is published by the aptly named Origami Press. But, says Winston: “This is no ordinary book however. I have been fortunate enough to have my manuscript accepted by the Origami Poetry Press of Rhode Island US.
“It is a very small book. but a proper book in every respect. Some of these micro chapbooks have been nominated for the pushcart prize. It is A7 in size and is folded from a single sheet of A4.”
And to launch the work on Saturday, November 29, the Hebden Bridge poet has picked a fitting venue for the occasion, as he explains.
“We are very privileged to be able to use ‘The Gallery Petite’. It’s a very small - but perfectly formed - gallery space under the stairs at Word of Mouth, which is behind Star Garage in Valley Road,” he said.
Winston added that copies of Extra will be available free of charge including 50 limited edition launch copies printed on quality paper and sealed in hand printed black A7 envelopes containing a signed cover art mini print by cover artist H Gregg, mini art cards (artist’s responses to the work), a background synopsis and film style confetti.
“Small drinks and tiny snacks will be available and there will be a mini exhibition by street photographer and cover artist H. Gregg,” said Winston. The launch will be a drop-in afternoon with a rolling program of readings plus open mic every half hour. The readings will be on the hour at noon, 1pm, 2pm and finally 3pm.
