Calling all budding songwriters - help is on hand with a free songwriting workshop lead by Yorkshire’s Outstanding Songwriter award winners.
Michelle Plum, formerly of Chumbawamba, and Nick Hall, collectively Plumhall, will lead a songwriting masterclass on Saturday morning, January 10, at St Michael’s Church Hall, Mytholmroyd, running from 10am to 1pm.
This is a White Ribbon Campaign event, the first stage in a project which will lead to a festival of appropriate music and a CD.
“We hope to turn musicians into songwriters or to hone the skills of existing songwriters. All songs need lyrics, so non musical lyricists are also welcome,” said organiser Dave Boardman of Doddnaze Artists.
“Michelle and Nick are rising stars. They won the Yorkshire Gig Guide Outstanding songwriters award in 2014 and their debut album Thundercloud was highlighted by The Guardian/Observer as a ‘hidden gem’. This is likely to be their year.”
Some of the songs written on the day will be performed in the evening as part of a Plumhall gig at the hall. The workshop is free as it is supported by Hebden Royd Town Council.
The gig is £3, though workshop participants will receive extra free tickets for the evening event.
