Sitting Calder Valley MP, Craig Whittaker, has been unanimously reselected by local Conservatives to fight the General Election on behalf of the Party in May.
He was given the vote of confidence by local Conservatives at a meeting of members just before Christmas and will defend a majority of more than 6,400 votes.
On his re-selection, Mr Whittaker said: “Since I was elected in 2010, we have seen a complete turnaround in the local economy.
“Businesses are now feeling increasingly confident about creating jobs and investing in our area for the longer-term.
“There are now more people in work locally than ever before and unemployment has reduced by over half to just two per cent since the last election.
“The only way to secure economic growth here in the Calder Valley is to stay on the Government’s path to a better and more prosperous future.
“With the support of local people, I hope to continue working to create additional jobs and investment in the Calder Valley as your local MP after May.”
Endorsing Mr Whittaker’s re-selection, chairman of Calder Valley Conservatives Charles Brickdale said: “I am absolutely delighted that Craig has been reselected by Party members.
“‘Craig is a strong and independent voice for all local people regardless of their political persuasion and I hope that he is able to continue his invaluable work on behalf of our area for many years to come.”
