The cream of the country’s fell runners will be at Centre Vale Park on Saturday.
The Todmorden venue is staging an English championship race which takes place from Centre Vale Park this Saturday.
The event is the Flower Scar Fell Race, organised as usual by local runner Jon Wright, aided by other Todmorden Harriers clubmates.
It’s the first race of the championship and the race is 5.5 miles long with 470 metres of climbing.
The route takes entrants round the park, then fairly directly up to the top of Flower Scar Hill above Sourhall before descending to Knotts bends.
There is then a tough climb back up the hill, before a dare devil descent back through the woods and over Ewood Lane to the park.
There are separate races for men and women. The men’s race has 420 on the start list, including the last two English champions, Tom Addison and Simon Bailey, and the last two British champions, Rob Hope and Rob Jebb.
Two hundred are due to contest the women’s race with last year’s first three, Vic Wilkinson, Helen Berry and Mel Price due to do battle again.
With a good entry from the Todmorden and Calder Valley clubs, it should be a fun packed day with some close, fast racing. The ladies’ race starts at 11.0 and the men’s race at 12.30.
