Woodhouse United picked up only their fifth point of the season in Division One of the Rochdale Sunday League when they drew 2-2 at home to Wardleworth last weekend.

They built on a promising performance the previous week and were denied victory by a late equaliser.

United made a positive start and Jay Connor and Jonny Sutcliffe went close but they suffered a setback when a Wardleworth striker picked his spot and slotted home.

Anthony McCarthy kept Woodhouse in the game while at the other end Adam Gray’s long throws were a dangerous weapon and Joe Connor and Kieran Foster had efforts inches wide.

Woodhouse started the second half well and good link up play from Marc Walters, Jay Connor and Jonny Sutcliffe resulted in Sutcliffe firing home.

United went in front from a Sutcliffe corner, Joe Connor rocketing a header in.

Jay Connor beat several opponents but had his shot saved while Matty Ormerod had an effort cleared off the line . Ryan Horan’s free kick was tipped over the bar.

There was a real scare for Joe Connor when he jockeyed the goal keeper and was sent off. However, the official realised it wasn’t him who had been booked earlier and allowed him to stay on the field.

Wardleworth equalised when Connor made a brilliant tackle but United were unable to clear.
