A reminder, if you are looking for something to do this weekend, that Sunday, April 19, sees Mytholmroyd Community Centre host the World Dock Pudding Championships.

The event runs from 1.30pm, but there is also a food and drink festival to enjoy from noon, and if you’re up even earlier there is a car boot sale from 7am, so come along tio bag a bargain or something to eat before watching the competitors cook it out for the championship title with the Halifax Courier Trophy.

Dock pudding is a delicacy nurtured in the Calder Valley - the dock leaves used in the dish are not the common or “cow dock” but a sweet variety called Polygonum Bistorta.

The mixture is brought to the competition in a container ready to be fried in bacon fat and served to the judges with other breakfast ingredients.
