The Todmorden in Bloom group are a small band of volunteers helping to enhance our town centre with extra flower displays for the benefit of all who live, work or visit here.
The group began nearly 14 years ago.
We hope our efforts make Todmorden a welcoming environment, a cleaner and greener and blooming place for all to enjoy.
Each year we support many local events, organise our own Garden Competition and enter the RHS Yorkshire in Bloom market town category.
This coming Easter Saturday, March 30, we shall be having a “bunny” themed market stall, together with a street collection and would welcome meeting our supporters.
In Todmorden we maintain several town centre flower beds and gardens, over 30 barrier baskets along the main roads, around 15 large containers, and arrange hanging baskets for shops and businesses each summer.
Whilst we are indebted to Todmorden Town Council for their generous grant support, we still need to raise plenty of funds for purchasing plants, containers etc.
For instance, Todmorden in Bloom will also be having two bag packing sessions at Morrison’s Supermarket during the year.
We also encourage satellite neighbourhood groups to further help the greening of Todmorden.
A few of our members have already begun gardening during the cold February weather and last week filled many bin bags of debris from the garden alongside the former National Westminster Bank.
Our Bloom group have monthly meetings at Todmorden Community and Resource Centre in Lever Street, off Halifax Road, Todmorden, on the first Wednesday of each month at 6.30pm in winter and 7.30pm in summer (preceded by an hour’s work!)
Todmorden in Bloom always need more helpers - can you spare us some time with a bit of cleaning or gardening, or clerical work, or promotional, or recruiting more folk, or fund raising?
Our chairman, Jean Butterworth, would love to hear from anyone who could help us by phoning 01706 817492.
