Images old and new taken by Todmorden Photographic Society members are on show soon, and the society is also launching a competition for members of the public to demonstrate their own skills with a camera.

The exhibition runs throughout June at Todmorden Information Centre, Burnley Road, and there is a strong link with the public in that too. Three of the images chosen by visitors to the society’s annual exhibition last autumn, coincidentally all by Janet Wright, will be among those on show.

Some images are taken from the exhibition but it will also feature work taken by society members since then - it will be the best of old and new, says society president Ian Wright.

The exhibition can be viewed at any time during the centre’s opening hours, which are 10am to 4pm, Mondays to Saturdays, and 10.45am to 2.30pm on Sundays.

Additionally, said Ian, the society was a running a competition for people to submit photographs of their own.

This would enable people to showcase their talent and encourage them to join the society, he said.

“At the same time as our own exhibition we are running a competition for the public to take part in and entry forms will be available at Todmorden Information Centre, and people can hand them in here,” he said.

“They have to be digital images and there will also be a website address available on the forms which they can be sent to.

“There will be three prizes, a first, second and third, and these will include free membership of the society. Hopefully it will also encourage people to become new members.”

Ian said a similar competition for the public had been held in the 1970s and on occasions in the 1980s, which had usually resulted in more people joining the society, which meets regularly at St Michael’s Community Centre, Cornholme.
