A SPECIAL cricket match stumped up charity cash in memory of a Todmorden soldier.

Friends of Jack Stanley took part in Jack’s Big Smash, a 20/20 match between a Todmorden Cricket Club XI and a Jack’s House Select XI at Centre Vale, which raised more than £670 for several charities in his memory.

Chris Barker, who represented the Jack’s House team and helped to organise the event, said: “It was an excellent day. The weather was fantastic at last.

“A couple of hundred people came to watch. It was a really good game of cricket.”

In a close finish, the Todmorden CC XI won by a narrow eight run margin.

“It was an entertaining game, which was what we expected,” Chris said.

“The crowd were fantastic. It was a fitting memorial to Jack.

“We are going to try to make it an annual event.”

Chris said special thanks must be given to Mark Clayton at Todmorden CC, Sue and Mark at Jack’s House, and everybody who helped to set up on the day.

“We raised just over £670, which is a good effort,” Chris said.

“We are very grateful for the contribution towards Jack’s fund. It’s very much appreciated.”
