It’s a break, and I think they need it

ENJOY the picture to the right, because it’s probably the highlight of the last week.

A third defeat on the bounce has certainly got Burnley supporters restless, even though it’s far too early yet to panic.

Burnley’s track record at the start of the 2008-2009 season wasn’t any better and although I am not making any play-off claims, there is plenty of time to change things around - but the need for Eddie Howe to sort out team selection and tactics becomes keener with each game and I hope the international break is put to good use.

Burnley fans had every right to gripe at the performance of Gus Poyet’s Brighton back on Good Friday last season, but this time they can’t complain at the Seagulls taking all three points back with them to the south coast.

On this occasion, they had more to complain about with their own team’s disappointing performance.

Injuries aren’t helping for sure, but Burnley added Hull’s Cameron Stewart to the ranks on loan before the transfer deadline, so the manager has choices to make and if the Huddersfield and Brighton games are anything to go by there are some changes to be made.

Burnley return to Championship action against fellow strugglers Peterborough on Saturday, September 15, and things won’t get any easier when they spend the following week in the midlands, away at Leicester (September 17) and Derby (September 22).

Fans are capable of over-reacting to a run like this, but they do know their football too and the ineffectiveness of the team since that marvellous opening game against Bolton Wanderers is concerning them.

We are all hoping they return after the next week’s break refreshed, reinvigorated and more effective.
