Aerobic enthusiasts – from ages 17 to 70 – are being asked to relive the 80s fitness craze at Todmorden Town Hall in October, in a bid to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.
In 1985, Lorraine Spencer (now Rodda) and Jill Spencer organised a Jog On The Spot session during one of their weekly The Bodyfirm Aerobic classes at Todmorden Town Hall.
A news report from the time showed a cheque for over £1,000 being presented to the charity.
Lorraine was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013, but is thankfully fully recovered.
She joined the Todmorden Committee of Cancer Research last year and amongst other events, has volunteered to organise – for one night only! – an 80s style Fun Aerobic Session on Wednesday, October 8, in a bid to raise funds.
There will be music from the decade and ladies are encouraged to wear lycra and legwarmers – with a prize for the best outfit.
A spkesperson for the committee said: “This is intended to be an evening of fun, laughter and catch ups with old friends.
“Supporters are welcome to come along and cheer them on.”
The doors open at 7.15pm, with the workout beginning at 8pm for an hour.
You are not asked to obtain sponsorship for the event, but tickets are £10 and will include a gift bag of goodies and refreshments . They are going fast, so the recommendation is to snap yours up soon.
So if you want to have an evening of fun and exercise with old – and new – friends, tickets are available from committee members, SW Allen Opticians on Water Street, Todmorden (Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday) or Judith’s Hairdressers, Mytholmroyd (Thursday, Friday and Saturday morning).

“We look forward to seeing you there!” said the spokesperson.
