Todmorden Athletic Under Eights romped to a 14-0 win at home to St Columba’s.

It took them a good five minutes to break through an initially steadfast defence. A shimmy and shot from Bailey Sutton did the trick and he went on to score a hat-trick.

That return was bettered by Freddie Priestley and Frank Cooper, who got four apiece. Cooper’s all came in the second half, having spent the first half in goal.

The assists came from Todmorden’s dominant midfield. Jack Suthers remained admirably unflustered after being pulled from pillar to post and Will Hammond’s pin-point interceptions stemmed the away team’s every turn, both securing deserved goals.

In the second half Dan Adams was confident and solid in goal on the two or three occasions Saints got into the Todmorden box.

Midfielder Euan Logue did just about everything but score and the goal of the game was down to him shaking off three St Columba’s players before he made an unselfish pass to Cooper, who pounced in his trademark fashion.

- Todmorden Wanderers Under Sevens started 2015 with a 13-1 win in blustery conditions away to St Columbus.

Both teams battled hard in the cold but Wanderers surged into a 5-0 half time lead with goals from Alfie Senior, Daniel Kelly (two) and Lennie Halstead (two).

Ruben Aldred pulled off one tremendous save with his shins for the visitors.

Wanderers worked hard in the second half and Aidan Rogers ensured Saints couldn’t feed the ball to their forwards.

Wanderers continued to attack with Isaac Waite carrying the ball forward and twisting through the opposition’s midfield.

Kelly scored twice more, Senior completed his hat-trick and Harvey Cartmill bagged four beautifully-work goals to earn himself the man of the match award.

Saints’ goal came from a superbly struck penalty.

Wanderers’ next game is against Crossley Juniors on the Centre Vale astroturf this Sunday.
