The Green Party has launched a ‘crowdfunding’ campaign in a bid to stand candidates in 100 per cent of Parliamentary seats across Yorkshire and the Humber in the General Election, including Calder Valley and Halifax.

The crowdfunding campaign runs until Monday, March 2. Already local people have funded 100 per cent of Halifax Candidate Gary Scott’s deposit and 80 per cent of Calder Valley Candidate Jenny Shepherd’s deposit.

Jenny Shepherd said: “In Calder Valley, more people didn’t vote in the last election than voted for our current MP.

“Green Party candidates offer people a real alternative to the grey parties. And the new anti-austerity parliamentary alliance between Greens, Scottish National Party and Plaid Cymru will give Green MPs a strong voice in Parliament – even if our numbers are few.”

Natalie Bennett, Green Party leader, added:

“Everyone needs the chance to make an informed vote, so Calderdale Greens have also launched a crowdfunding appeal to cover the costs of a freepost leaflet to go to every household in Calder Valley.

“With these leaflets, people will know they have a Green candidate, find out that the Green Party is proposing real alternatives to five more years of unforgiving austerity.”
